Eugenia Zachanowicz
Director
Eugenia Zachanowicz has a Certificate in Teaching of English as a Second Language from the University of Toronto in addition to an MA in English and American Literature from the University of Wroclaw. Her passion for using interactive methodology and appropriate ESL materials stems from over 20 years of experience in teaching ESL to new immigrants in Canada as well as to young adults in Sri Lanka. Having lived in Europe, North America and Asia, she understands first-hand the many challenges one faces when learning and communicating in a foreign language.Her firm belief that English changes lives led her to start up the Colombo Language School where she continues to focus on developing curriculum in addition to teaching and directing the school .
Mishthi Senewiratne
Manager
Mishthi Senewiratne holds a first-class degree in languages from the University of Kelaniya and has also received the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers. She has successfully completed distance learning courses in Online Teaching with the University of Oxford, Department for Continuing Education, and the University of New South Wales via Coursera. She has 20 years of experience teaching English in Sri Lanka and overseas to corporates, government institutions, banks, theological colleges as well as to private students from both the public and private sectors. As a part-time lecturer at the Ladies’ College Department of Vocational Studies, Mishthi conducted courses in Business English for corporate entities such as Brandix, Unilever, United Motors, John Keells Office Automation and DFCC. She also taught a course on Public Speaking at the American College of Higher Education. In addition to her role as an instructor, she manages the day-to-day operations of the Colombo branch of CLS.
Shanthi Dias
Shanthi has travelled extensively across the world and lived in the U.K. and U.S.A. In addition to this, her experience of teaching at Methodist College for over 20 years and being the Principal for 13 years has given her a thorough insight into The mechanics of teaching English The linguistic barriers that affect language learning amongst Sri Lankan students The discrepancies between the requirements of local & foreign labor markets, and the standards & methodologies of the Sri Lankan education system.
Nirasha D’Almeida de Silva
With a BA (Hons) in English and English Language Teaching from the Open University of Sri Lanka, Nirasha D’Almeida de Silva is an enthusiastic teacher with over two decades of experience in teaching English as a second language. Her classes could be characterized by their concise and clear teaching methods and are never without moments of laughter. A holder of Diplomas in English Language and Literature, and Effective Communication and Methodology, Nirasha has taught at Gateway College Colombo as well as the Gateway School of Speech and Drama. Always looking to broaden her boundaries, she also possesses First Aid and Foundation Diplomas in Homeopathy (UK) and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) – and it is this mindset of constant love for learning that she successfully channels into her teaching.
Miriam Naveendran
Miriam has a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge Local Exams Syndicate (UCLES), and a first-class honours in English from the University of Peradeniya. Her passion has been to teach English as a second language to students of all ages. She has been teaching English to a wide range of students since 1999 - from secondary school (Methodist College) to University where she taught undergraduates (University of Peradeniya & University of Colombo) before joining the Colombo Language School in 2015.
Zahiya Imam
Zahiya Imam earned her CELTA qualification from the University of Sheffield, UK, in addition to being a qualified Chemical Engineer from Monash University, Malaysia. Her teaching experience includes instructing pre- and upper-intermediate multilingual classes. Furthermore, her extensive travel history and diverse interests related to sales, marketing and psychology have connected her to people of all backgrounds, and therefore she fully understands the importance of presenting innovative lessons and communicative activities to stimulate and engage an adult group of learners. This versatility, she believes will be valuable in the classroom, where there are many different personalities and learning styles.
Mega Perera
Mega Perera holds a Cambridge English Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA -UK) issued by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES). She is currently engaged in her third year of teaching English to adults, young adults, and children (local and overseas) online and onsite in addition to teaching students with special needs. She tutors for IGCSE exams, Cambridge/ Edexcel, and the Sri Lankan local syllabus for all grades. She is also taking assignments to teach Business English. She was employed as a part-time content writer for an online travel blog that promotes Sri Lankan tourism and for over a decade she has written articles for mainstream local newspapers.
